Ricardo Ricco was doping. Well knock me over with a feather! How does the media get the doping results before the riders? The lab needs a leak eliminated. Christian VdV is impressive. K-Rod,
Apart from being hungry, grouchy and having nothing to look forward to this weekend, the worst part is with no carbs or calories in my body, I couldn't drink even if I wanted to. Booze goes right to your head and the hangovers are legendary.
I'm going to Vegas soon and I'm going to have to start eating massive amounts of carbs a dat or 2 ahead of time. Otherwise, even wine with dinner will make me sick. (My friends drink a lot of wine with dinner)

If people want 50 MPG cars, they will buy them and the automakers will rise to the occasion.
I'm mad that I'm forced to run unleaded fuel in my car, and that it has a catalytic converter. That thing must have added $500 to the sticker price.
UNFAIR!!

Why should there be any incentives if the market makes the final determination? Beta was better than VHS but the market chose differently.
June 25, 2008 10:03 AM
jroosh said...
The Beta/VHS battle isn't an issue of national security like our dependence on foreign energy.
If you go Obama's route, manufacturers will work to circumvent the regulations because consumers will still ultimately drive what they want, within reason. A forced approach will only create friction and division.
"A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."
McCain's strategy will potentially pull people out of the woodwork, and from outside the automotive industry to think outside the box and find a solution, if it is even possible.
A "contest" is a little hokey, I would have thought tax credits or other financial incentives might be an alternative approach but I am opposed to Obama's strongarm approach.
I think government is most effective and efficient when it incents versus forces the hand of industry.

I believe that you can get leaded gas and a car without a catalytic converter in Europe, jkruse. At least you could until recently.
Biggest argument I know against 50mpg requirements is that there is no clear path to it, as there are no cars on the market now that achieve it. Barack Obama cannot mandate a favorable change in aerodynamics, materials, or the Carnot efficiency of gas engines or fuel cells.
He can put a lot of people out of work pretending he can, though.

the Masters 3/4 that really irks me. It makes no sense
Does it make economic sense on the part of race promoters? If they get a better turn out, and generate more revenue, is that not a good thing?
BTW, you picked the wrong race this week. You are lame for not racing at the track last night.
Comment by Smithers - June 20, 2008 @ 11:29 am
There aren't nearly as many categories here. This weekends race has 3 categories and last weekends had 5. Guess what? Races are full and its fantastic. We get awesome superman victory celebrations too.
Comment by NYCRoadie - June 20, 2008 @ 3:49 pm
1. I kind of understand the need for 50+ categories. I was little unclear about my stance on 35+ 1/2/3 categories. I don't like the number of categories.
2. I don't think that the numbers support the need for the categories at these races. I am waiting for promoters to take a leap and just limit the categories of racing, because I bet the racers will still come, or the limited amount of time will make up for the lack of racers on a long day.
Comment by Super Rookie - June 20, 2008 @ 4:06 pm

Of course, but are you suggesting that the 35+ 3/4 racers won't show up if they have to race their own category, and that category gets its own race? I understand why a 35+ guy wouldn't want to do a 1/2/3 race, but why would he have an issue with a race specifically for the 3's?
I wasn't necessarily picking on Masters 35+ 3/4 racers though (I hope to do one or two of those races myself) - my real point was that the master's riders are always whining about something rather than appreciating all the options that promoters are giving them. And those options are often at the expense of the women's races.
Comment by Strats - June 21, 2008 @ 7:36 pm

Yes. I believe that's why that special category was created in the first place.
And those options are often at the expense of the women's races.
You are probably right. But the whining Masters are just taking advantage of the opportunity presented to them by the promoter. Maybe the MCF should require a seperate women's 4/5, women's 3 and women's 1/2 field all of which are subsidized by trying to make the Masters 4/5 field as large as possible.
