Today, I'm happy to announce an early beta release of an Internet Explorer version of our del.icio.us bookmarks extension. For the first time our Internet Explorer users will enjoy most of the best features of our Firefox extension. We're very excited about this release, as we have many users who use Internet Explorer as their primary browser. Sinc... [Source: http://blog.delicious.com]

Slow down, del.icio.us. I was getting comfortable with the lack of updates and progress on improving the service. Why, it was only Sept. 6 when you promised a new UI and search engine. At this new breakneck pace of yours we'll be forced to enjoy improvements by the start of 2009. Please, ease us in more slowly. ;-)

I personally don't view networking as a bad thing at all, and think this is one of the best ways to improve our industry. About the aversion to networking, I think it may be a result of the rotten apples out there whose idea of networking doesn't involve any sincere socializing, but is simply a self-marketing tool they pull out when they need cash.

I hate that kind of networking, preferring the kind where you get to know people, as people, and come at it from an attitude of what do I have to offer others, instead of what can these people do for me. Honestly I started the group to see if there was a need. After spending the day approving members and reading through some very kind and supportive email there is a need here and I've got some ideas for how to help. I need a bit more time to converse with a few peers to get those talking points turned into a useful course of action.

      > "Your membership may be subject to the approval of the group manager."

All accounts are approved just about every hour. This morning the 'new group' limit was reached but Cool Dude Steve Ganz helped open the flood gates once again.

I've been waiting for two hours at home only to find out Comcast isn't coming to fix our Internet connection. Meanwhile, I've signed up for U-verse. I had hoped to get the best of both. Comcast's 16Mbps Blast service and AT&T's U-verse premium TV package. Now I'll probably dump Comcast altogether and stick with a slower, 6Mbps connection from AT&T. It's a challenge to discern which firm is the lesser of two evils, but for now I'll choose AT&T -- until they send my browsing records to the NSA.

the cable isnt considered private property until its INSIDE the building.

i have one long cable coming from the drop, extending 80ft alongside my building, into a room, and across my whole apt. legally i can do whatever i want to the part of the cable inside the building, but not outside.

comcast has a horrible service record.. they need a good, hard spanking.

U-Verse is fantastic! I had it installed about a month ago and LOVE it. Install was super smooth in and out in a couple hours tops. Internet is blazing fast, and the TV UI is stunning. (and that's coming from a TiVO die-hard) There is no comparing the U-Verse interface...Comcast should be embarrassed by their UI...SO happy to final dump them.

U-verse is run on Fiber Optics to the Node (that box down the street from your house) and then run to your house on copper. They have built a new shiny box that acts as a storage compartment where you get all your goodies from. Doing this, allows you to get everything AT&T offers quick as hell. AT&T offers 10M internet speed for the moment, and im sure once they get their feet better grounded, speeds will shoot up.

I cannot wait for U-Verse to be available in my area and it's only a matter of time. The new V-Rad box is up 100 feet away, just not powered as of yet. Goodbye Time Warner. You suck!!!! Just hope AT&T doesnt fuck us over too.

      Maureen:

The point you seem to repeatedly miss is that people like myself, who outrightly oppose Hillary Clinton as a potential nominee, do so on the basis that she's a manipulative, lying, flip-flopping, power grabbing, calculating politician. Now, your argument could be that they all are to some degree, but if she's a front runner in any contest, it's untrustworthiness. Further, she's done it all to herself through her actions and calculations. It has absolutely nothing to do with her being a woman. Attempting to claim that it's some gender bias holding her back from the presidency is ridiculous. It's not her gender. It's herself. It's that she's repeatedly lied. It's that she claims she's for working Americans as her own husband lobbies against working people and rakes in millions for it. It's that she claims she's for blue collar America when she sat on the board of Walmart, one of the most anti-labor corporations in the country. It's that she claims she has the experience to lead the country when said experience is comprised of being first lady of first a state then the country, said corporate ties, and previous legal work. She's clearly not in any race for any one but herself. Were she a man or a woman, those facts have dismantled her character. Blaming gender bias doesn't cover up those blatant facts. We've seen all these character flaws before, in our current president George W. Bush. I agree that women need to break the glass ceiling of the presidency. Give me Cindy Sheehan then, she's at least stood in the face of wrong and said and done what's right. It's not that women aren't deserving, it's that Hillary Clinton isn't.

      Dear Mary Toomey (#144. April 24th, 2008 11:11 am)

Thank you so much for your beautiful post.

Living in PA I was downhearted also by this loss until I calmed myself down and really thought about everything. While I would have preferred Senator Obama had won, he did win my town (2-1!) and my county, Delaware County, (despite Congressman Sestak campaigning for Senator Clinton as if he was joined at the hip to her), as well as a number of others (the counties where the more educated people in Pennsylvania are concentrated). He was working against tremendous odds in a state where the demographics highly favored Senator Clinton and where a popular Governor and the mayors of the two largest cities endorsed him and threw their machines behind Senator Clinton (and Mayor Nutter still could not even begin to deliver Philadelphia to Senator Clinton!) -and yet he still held her win, projected above 20 points when she started, to below the critical two digit benchmark which was supposed to determine whether she stayed in the race. (Of course she had no intention of getting out-she just continually changes the criteria.) So please don't lose heart. We always knew it would be a slow painful process.

But I will not refrain from harsh criticisms of Senator Clinton, any more than I would refrain from harsh criticisms of President Bush. Many people are obdurate in their blind following of Senator Clinton and unreachable, but some may still be open minded enough to be persuaded to learn more about the candidates and rethink their support for this woman, just as many super delegates, of whom she had started with the vast majority, are beginning to realize what Senator Clinton really is and throw their support behind Senator Obama. I have worked a number of campaigns now, and I know you reach voters one vote at a time. If I can convince one person to think a bit more critically about their support of Senator Clinton, to do a little more research and find how specious her claims of accomplishment are and how real and significant the accomplishments Senator Obama has achieved so far are, it will have been worth my time to post links and to try to reason with people in these blogs.

      To Maureen Scanlon.

You wrote several posts, and you certainly did tell the Obamarobots what you think. It was great that you came back and answered them. Nobody else had the courage to counter you. I absolutely agree with what you have stated. Women must stick together. I would vote for anyone other than Barack Obama if he does gets the nominaton. Hillary cannot let the pressure of the Democratic party make her quit. I do not believe it will happen. Hillary is no quitter. I think she will take it all the way to the convention. She should and must. Hillary has been treated like dirt by the DNC. The only people who do not agree with you are those who support Obama. Everyone committed to Hillary should tell the Democratic party what they think treating Hillary like dirt will mean for them in the elections-the presidency, the entire House and one-third of the Congress. I contributed $500.00 dollars after midnight, two donations of $250.00 two days apart. I can still contribute $450.00,and I will. The Obama supporters are scared. They know they need Hillary Clinton supporters, and I am certainly going to be missing-in-action. I cannot vote for Obama or any Democrat after they have tried every tactic to ruin Hillary's candidacy. The only reason they tried to destroy Hillary is that she is a woman. I have been seriously considering becoming a Republican. They are no good for women. The Democrats pretend they are good for women, but they do not fool me. More third-party votes could have some impact.

Thanks Maureen Scanlon for telling it like it is. The Obamarobots want to pull the wool over people' eyes. I cannot be fooled. I am educated, a professional, and on this and other blogs, I am told how stupid I am. Obama's supporters do not fool gold's they are swallowing. He is nothing but a con-artist.

eBay is out to dominate any competitor they perceive as a threat to their way of thinking, even if that domination might break the law. eBay retains 24/7 legal council to deal with of any problems down the road.

The following was taken from a forum on eBay, and spelling errors were corrected:

For people who are new to the eBay boycott being supported internationally:

As per eBay's new "restructuring" policies and changes, if you want to sell on eBay, you must allow eBay to:

      1. Steal your right to leave honest feedback

      2. Force an unfair DSR system.

      a) Punishing you for favorable ratings between "Good Transaction" & Excellent Transaction"

      3. Hide your listings in "Best Matches", but not tell you how placings are calculated.

      4. Force you to accept PayPal.

      5. Put "WARNING" signs on your listings for not offering PayPal.

      6. To refund YOUR money (via PayPal) to a customer at PayPal 's sole discretion.

      7. Withhold your funds for 21+ days, via PayPal.

      8. Hide your bidders' IDs.

      9. Pad their listing numbers.

      10. Lie to the media.

      11. Give bad customers coupons, so they will continue to abuse sellers.

      12. Increase your FVF by 67%, at their whim.

      13. Withhold performance discounts from you.

      14. Throw away your feedback percentages, except for the last 12 months.

      15. Remove your auctions and not notify you why.

      16. Censor your opinions and ban you for those opinions.

      17. Red flag your auctions and put others listings on them.

To all of you cry babies out there who are moaning about CL possibly dealing with Ebay in a less than fair manner, I say………….What goes around, comes around. Ebay has been screwing it's customers for years. In my opinion they are the greediest entity in existance and I for one would love to see them go down. The whole lot, including Skype, PayPal and anything else they've got their grubby paws into. I was an auction seller for many years, and in the early days Ebay was great. Then I hear they started buying up every single online auction site that even came close to competing with them. What has happened to this countries anti-trust laws? The gov. didn't blink an eye when they went after Bill Gates and Microsoft. So now they are going to wimp out when it comes to Ebay? I say they should take 'em down! LONG LIVE CRAIGSLIST!

I don't care if anyone breaks any rules because I have no faith in the enforcement of the laws anyway. The Fact is that the best way to deal with anyone that treats you unfairly is to not deal with them at all. Just hit the ignore button…and let FREE TRADE prevail…In other words If Ebay treats you unfairly then don't use them and don't look to the gov. to fix it for you. 13. Playing by media rules

Media and Obama fans are trying to change the rules and kick Clinton out of the race. It's no surprise that Obama would try to do that; it's politics. But that media has accepted this meme is only further demonstration of their Obamalove. This week's On the Media is a mash note for Obama if there ever were one. Jay,

I'd say they showed you had a less-busy night than I have.

I'm complaining about the meta show of media criticism which has its own examples embedded making the argument I'm complaining about. I make no apology for complaining. I make no apology for making my affiliation and affection clear (where have you?). This is a silly argument off the point. The question remains: Was OTM right to argue that Clinton has lost and thus that media should not be covering her? Or not? I say not. That's the point of the post. Make as much meta out of it as you will but I'm going to finish the dishes.

I have to say I don't get it. The right way to critique a segment for On the Media is to say "the media wants to change the rules….?" The right way to criticize Slate is to say, "I've had it with media trying to kick Hillary Clinton out of this race….?"

Why not say Bob Garfield is cracked when he argues that…..Or Slate is wrong to start it's Hillary death watch because….

Oh, and I'm for Obama, everyone. Apply the discount rate accordingly.

Jeff, you are usually a straight shooter, but you seem very personally involved in this issue and I think it's clouding your judgment.

You are correct that there is no rule that the superdelegates could swing the nomination to Hillary. It's also technically true that Wyoming and Utah could vote Democratic in November, or the Yankees could lose 130 games this season. But the chances of either happening are extremely slim.

Obama is ahead in delegates, popular vote, states won and money raised. His campaign organization is far superior to Clinton's. In fact, I think it's safe to say that if they had switched campaign staffs at the beginning, Clinton would have had the nomination wrapped up two months ago.

And Obama has broader appeal to independents and moderate Republicans than Clinton, which Dems need in order to beat McCain.

Superdelegates could vote en mass for Hillary, but why? Where is the overriding reason to overturn the voters' will? It's just not there. They aren't going to risk destroying the party unless there is an extremely clear-cut and unassailable reason, something that would cause the remaining delegates to piss into the wind.

    4. Jeremy C. Says:

Media and Obama fans are trying to change the rules and kick Clinton out of the race. It's no surprise that Obama would try to do that; it's politics.

#1 Problem with this post: You state that the media and Obama fans are trying to get Clinton "out of the race". The you immediately follow with the understanding of why Obama would want to do that.

Obama himself has said consistently that he believes HRC has every intention and full right to continue in the race. You are jumping facts by stating that he is pushing for her to quit because he ISN'T doing anything of the sort.

#2 problem: HRC has been trying to change the rules since .. of well, since about the time it becamse obvious Obama was a serious contender and her tired "experience" argument wasn't going to work.

    5. Kawika Holbrook Says:

Jeff says: Media and Obama fans are trying to change the rules and kick Clinton out of the race. It's no surprise that Obama would try to do that; it's politics.

Obama says: "My attitude is that Senator Clinton can run as long as she wants. Her name is on the ballot. She is a fierce and formidable opponent and she obviously believes she would make the best nominee and the best president."

      Source: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/29/obama-to-clinton-stay-in-the-race/

I don't see that Obama himself is trying to kick Hillary out of the race. I see him currently winning the race. And if he continues to run ahead, he doesn't need to waste energy trying to kick her out. He only needs to reach the last primary and caucus ahead in the popular vote, states won and pledged delegates. I doubt the superdelegates would overturn those results. Perhaps her small chance of winning the popular vote is keeping her in the race. That's her prerogative. Regardless, OTM's argument that she lost is a bit off. A better argument would be "she's losing, has little chance of winning, and may be distracting Democrats from the bigger race to come."

Well, maybe, but I'm going to continue asking. I still think we have an impact. I think Swamplanders read the comments even if they don't respond. I have noticed slight improvement by KT, AMC and even Klein. But this piece by JNS just stinks up the place. It violates so many rules. She quotes the RNC, but not the DNC; she goes to bat for McCain "is it fair..."; she pretends to speak for South Koreans!!!!; she shows no ability to think, as Rick Hertzberg puts it in the New Yorker: (paraphrased) "so McCain's position is to continue combat in Iraq for as long as it takes and then we can stay in Iraq...."; she wants to make McCain's case that there is a difference between a "presence" and an "occupation", etc.

I am not quite ready to give up on her, though.

smedley, I completely understand the desire not to give up, but as you said KT,AMC and Klein are at least willing to engage. I think time is better spent with them in that case. I don't expect any blogger and certainly not any full time reporter to provide a response to each and every post. That's not even necessary or fair. However, in my humble opinion you are not really blogging if you only post and never respond to feed back. You may as well be writing a column or publishing your journal or notes on line and calling it a blog. Its not. I guess my main point is why bother blogging if you only want to do the easy part.

you are not really blogging if you only post and never respond to feed back.

That is why this is a bogus blog. A week ago, Michael Scherer asked us for questions to put to McCain. Within an hour, he had received lists of a few dozen questions. What have we heard about these questions since then? Nothing.

The authoritarian management of Time-Warner-Moloch just doesn't get it. They did not think that this blog would attract a stable community of reader participants who would act as an accountability mechanism. They thought the Swampland visitors would be an ever changing bunch of random rabble, with no ability to persist in questioning the dysfunctional "journalism" of Time Magazine. They thought the Time writers could simply stonewall the posters here and get away with it.

We are Richard Stengel's worst nightmare: informed, persistent, and demanding readers.

What????

@Chaddogg - I was legitimately concerned for Gus' life last night, if Davidson's buzzer beater had gone in, i'm pretty sure his head would've exploded. I was a PBP radio guy back in college for an ACC team, and they always taught us to be calm and collected, but for my money I'd rather watch Gus Johnson than Nantz. Everyone knows Nantz spends the whole tournament day dreaming about the Masters.

@Keith - I'm with you on John Adams, I haven't had a chance to watch my DVR'd 4th episode, but I'm really enjoying it. I think Giamatti has played Adams perfectly; stubborn, arrogant, but almost consistently not the one who gets the limelight, and you can see that it tortures him.

You're late with this, Joe. Polls show that Obama's weathered the Wright storm. And the bottom line is very simple: Gore chose not to run, he took himself out of the arena, he didn't want the bruising battle, he hasn't earned it. The idea tht we have huge turnout and enthusiasm for two Democrats now, so we need to "fix that" by tossing all the efforts and votes in the trash and bring in a retread of the 2000 election seems logically incorrect and rediculously undemocratic.

I have two problems with this. (1) I can't imagine Democratic voters accepting a nomination that COMPLETELY ignores every single one of their votes. And (2) Al Gore ran a fairly terrible campaign in 2000. Yes, being out of politics for a while has made him look pretty good. But look at Bill Clinton: Everybody was so impressed by all the good works he was doing after he left office, and now he's drawing criticism from all over the place again. Somehow I think the same thing would happen to Gore.
